JJ Symon, The Last Troubadour

JJ Symon is a musician without borders, his soul divided between opposite ends of the earth. Born in Manchester, England and raised in Melbourne, Australia he currently resides in grey ol’ London Town.

Poet, traveler, troubadour and purveyor of fine folk and rhythm n’ blues, his sounds have captivated and electrified audiences all over the world.

His fascination with the ‘Beat Generation’ of musicians, artists and playwrights is clearly reflected in his own infectious brand of ‘spit fire garage folk blues’. With a respectful nod towards artists such as Bob Dylan, Beck, Tom Waits and The White Stripes, his passion for the diverse is clear.

I’m listening to ‘Bang!Bang!VoodooDoll’ from 2010 and as I open my ears a strange sensation washes over me. The lyrics sing like a story and as the harmonica wails and drums thrash, my feet begin stomping of their own accord. This song is catchy as hell and I am possessed! I feel like I should be slugging moonshine and flailing wildly in a bar somewhere. New Orleans sounds about right, but maybe that’s just the Voodoo talking.
